Fencing is priced per metre and depends on the style, height, post type and ground conditions. As a rough guide, panel fencing is the most cost-effective option, while closeboard and concrete-post systems cost more but last longer. We give you a clear, written quote after a free site survey so you know the exact price before any work starts.

Most residential fences are completed in one to two days, depending on the length and access. A straightforward panel fence on a clear run can be done in a day; longer runs, concrete posts or awkward access take a little longer. We'll give you a realistic timescale at the survey.

Generally no, if the fence is under 2 metres high (or 1 metre next to a highway used by vehicles). Listed buildings and conservation areas have extra rules. We'll flag any planning considerations during your free survey so there are no surprises.

Yes. Removal and disposal of your old fencing is included in your quote. We take the waste away and leave your garden tidy — you won't be left with a pile of broken panels.

Concrete posts last far longer and won't rot, and they let you slot panels in and out for easy replacement. Wooden posts are cheaper and look more natural but have a shorter lifespan. For long-term value we usually recommend concrete posts with gravel boards.

Gravel boards sit between the ground and your fence panels, keeping the timber off wet soil so it doesn't rot prematurely. Concrete gravel boards are the most durable. We nearly always recommend them — they significantly extend the life of your fence.

For rear and side boundaries not adjacent to a road, fences up to 2 metres high don't normally need planning permission. Next to a highway, the limit is usually 1 metre. If you need extra height for privacy, we can discuss options like trellis toppers during the survey.

We do both. If a repair will sort the problem and save you money, we'll tell you straight. If the fence is past it, we'll say so. There's no pressure to replace something that a simple repair would fix.

Light rain is usually fine, but very wet or frozen ground can affect post-setting and we won't cut corners on a solid foundation. If the weather forces a reschedule, we'll let you know promptly and rebook at the earliest opportunity.

Boundary responsibility can be complex and isn't always what people assume. Your title deeds may show ownership, but there's no legal obligation to fence a boundary. We can advise on the practical side, but for legal ownership we recommend checking your deeds or speaking to your conveyancer.

We always recommend talking to your neighbour before work starts, especially on shared boundaries. A quick conversation avoids most issues. We can install entirely on your side of the boundary and work around access constraints if needed.

We need clear access along the fence line for materials, tools and waste removal. If access is tight — for example through a house or narrow side gate — let us know at the survey so we can plan the right approach and equipment.
